What is the difference between a PR and a sponsored article?

Press Releases usually contain an important announcement of some kind on behalf of a corporate brand. A good press release will announce something new on behalf of a company that might demonstrate progress and growth. PRs are a popular mechanism for spreading good news written in an objective manner. PRs are also a cost-effective way to disseminate your announcement accross multiple high-traffic websites. A sponsored article on the other hand does not necessarily contain an announcement, and may just be a subjective text or sharable, educational piece. Sponsored articles in best-practice marketing terms should not be duplicated, whereas the content of a PR will stay the same across all announcement websites.
